六月 6, 2014

MEDIA RELEASE

Wellard Managing Director Mauro Balzarini has been appointed to the Australian Federal Government’s Trade and Investment Advisory Council (TIPAC).

The TIPAC, which meets for the first time today, was formed to provide an important source of advice on the challenges and opportunities involved in advancing the Federal Government’s trade and investment agenda.

“This group brings considerable horsepower to the table as well as a unique and high quality commercial perspective to the task of advancing trade and investment,” said Federal Trade Minister Andrew Robb.

“TIPAC members are all highly respected in their fields and offer insight and expertise across all of the areas of Australia’s key strengths. As a government we are determined to leverage these strengths to help drive sustainable growth.”

Mr Balzarini was selected to provide advice on agribusiness given Wellard’s extensive involvement in the production, export and shipping of grains, livestock and meat.

Other food and agribusiness members include, Philippa Purser (Managing Director of Cargill Australia); Alison Watkins (Group Managing Director of Coca-Cola Amatil); and Joy Linton (Non-Executive Director of Bega Cheese).

Mr Balzarini said he was honoured to form part of the TIPAC.

“Agriculture in Australia has a promising export-driven future, and I am happy to put my knowledge at the disposal of Minister Robb who should be commended for utilising the experience of export-orientated business leaders to ensure the Government is providing the best support it can to Australia’s exporters.” he said.

“To capitalise on those opportunities there needs to be a concerted effort from business and Government to remove barriers and facilitate trade in both directions.

“The trade decisions Government and business make now will have ramifications for decades to come. Australia must use every competitive advantage it has in a competitive international environment to win export opportunities.”
